The "Paris Hilton Solution" to LLBs

I’m sure you’ve all seen the news reports by now. From this point
forward, I’ll be looking for a silver Bentley with front-end damage to
drive behind on the freeway, knowing that the driver will simply plow
a path through all the LLBs for me. ;)

I miss my old Capri with the rusted hood; it parted through LLBers
like Moses going through the red sea.

Didn’t Richard Petty at one point actually PIT a LLBer on some public
highway?  I’ve heard this story from several sources but haven’t been
able to find it online (although honestly I haven’t looked that
    hard…)

I’ve thought about doing it a time or two. Most of the time I just
pass ‘em in the median. I wonder what it’s like to be behind me and

You should have seen the look on the face of the LLB bitch (LLBB?) in a
V6 Mustang who I somehow was able to pass on the right in my 106 hp
Honda Civic today.  She was going down to 60 and up to 85 on I-5 for at
least 7 miles (creating a very hazardous accordian reaction behind her
each time, between her efforts to LLB and the heavy trucks in 3 & 4)
before I got my place in line to get by.

It was fucking priceless when she was racing me to the next car and
couldn’t keep up with my econobox.  That and I was glad I got the extra
large drink at In-N-Out after I was passed.  ;)

Before this last ratchet upwards, prices were 1.409 – 1.709/gal.  Four

gone up 2.3x times since then.  Yeah…that is less than the inflation
    rate, right?

The oil companies have the American public exactly where they want them.

    > The oil companies have the American public exactly where they want them.

It’s a huge conspiracy.  Remember that the inflation rate is the AVERAGE
rate of the price increase of a selected basket of consumer products.
There is no law requiring the price of any individual item in the basket
to rise at the same rate as the average.  A tomato blight breaks out and
the price of tomatoes increases 50%, is that a criminal offense because
the average inflation rate is 4%?

I’m bothered that Congress is "investigating" the recent gasoline price
spike.  They are so outraged that the oil companies dared to make a
profit while American SUV owners paid $3/gallon for gas and they are
demanding an explanation in congressional hearings.  Of course, one
might ask if the righteous unselfish congressmen were so concerned
about selfish oil company greed, why they haven’t created their own
non-profit oil company to refine gasoline to sell at cost to the poor
    SUV owners.

I thought America stood for the capitalist free market.  In other words,
the market sets the price and not the government.  The alternative is
government price controls, so you wind up with fabulously low prices
and no products available at those prices.  Soviet citizens only had to
pay a penny a gallon for gasoline, they simply had to wait 3 years for
their ration (not to mention the 6-year waiting list for cars).

And as usual, you have no proof, and ignore everything everyone’s ever

No shit.  So how does that jive with your contention that gas price was
fixed by the President?  Hint:  If it was fixed, it wouldn’t matter
whether Americans "like" paying 3 bucks or not.

The real answer:  The price is not fixed, it’s set by supply/demand,

Washington state certainly has high gas taxes and we just agreed, it
seems, to continue our latest nine cent gas tax spike.

Of course I was referring to the lowest available price for the standard
grade gasoline. Obviously in an open market, stations can try to sell
    gas for whatever price.

    > > And where’s
    > > diesel fuel prices currently?  Above $3.00 a gallon..

Kurt does this sort of thing with every post. I’m well aware that diesel
    is currently under supply strain.

Sheesh, where do you live?  When I started driving in 1984, gas was
about $.65-.80 a gallon and it stayed there through at least the early
90s.  Even as late as the late 90s, it was only in the $1.50 range.

Well, yes and no.  The petroleum industry has been making record
profits off of the recent ‘shortage’ and even the station owners have
been keeping the prices artificially high because they claim that when
the prices drop below a certain point, lots of people buy more gas and
supplies might become low.  Even though the demand is lower, they’re
purposely charging more to "protect" the supply.

Are you in New Orleans? If you can’t find good prices, check something
like this: http://www.gasbuddy.com/ If we buy gasoline from the low
