No, Suzuki made the Sprint and now the Geo Metro.  Isuzu made the
Spectrum, Geo Spectrum, and Geo Storm.  Suzuki also makes the Geo Tracker.

err…the Metro is built by Suzuki.
But the statement that Isuzu can’t make good cars is apparently true,
since they have decided to stop building cars and concentrate on trucks,
which they did well.

I myself think Geo Metros (and its sibling Suzuki Swift) is too small to
be safe. At least in the U.S. Maybe in Japan it’s safe enough due to the
slower traffic there, and the fact that you’re far more likely to be hit
by a tiny 600cc commuter car than a 5000pounds 82 Olds Cutlass.

If you think safety, stay away from those cars.

Hi, there,

Metro is not a racing car, that’s it. I drove it once, I rented it for a week
trip to DC from PA. Let me tell you about my impression:

The car was Metro with 5 door body, at about 6,000 mi, i.e. almost new. It
was fully loaded and had an automatic transmission – as any rental car.

My impression was strongly positive in general. Only one problem – 3-cyl. engine
is slightly underpowered. With conditioner on that car does not want to go
above 85 mph, and acceleration is not really good. I did not try this car
with a/c off – it was that week with 100+ heat Actually, I discovered that
this car has only 3 cyl, in DC – when I got under the hood to check for oil
level. .

My decision: this car is good in it’s class
especially if you can find it with manual transmission. In DC that days we had
above 100 F and the engine never overheated even for a little bit and with a/c
on. You defenitely cannot race on this car, but it has an exellent mpg, and
if you dont force it the shift is smooth, which indicates a sufficient power.
This car climbed Appalachian mountains without real problems, althow not really fast The car behaves good on suburban highways in DC area – i.e on speed about 70mph

I understand – my experience is not full, but really positive, I must say. One
more thing – I.m  tall man >6 ft. and I have a problem in small cars and even
in not so small. I have a problem with legs on Mercury tracer and I cannot see
a right side of the road in Honda Accord and Ford Tempo – the internal rear
view mirror block my view I never experienced any of this with Metro!

Actually, that’s the GT now.  After the first year, VW threatened Suzuki
with a lawsuit if they used GTi, so it was changed to just GT.  No word
if Ferrari or whoever used GT first is equally offended.

Strongly disagree !! One case does not speak for the quality of a car.
For all you know your friend tried to drive at a high speed during
the run-in period and damaged the engine.

Btw, it is not made by Isuzu. It is made by Suzuki.  Consumer Reports
has related the reliability as Average to Above Average over the last
4 years and the reliability of its predecessor Chevy Sprint was also
pretty good !

Well, by saying that these are not meant for high-speed long distance driving
I do not mean that you cannot drive it that way. It only means that most likely
over a long distance high speed driving will cause considerable strain on its
small engine and that its long term reliability may be affected by that. Off
course I cannot say exactly how much the affect will be, but the chances are
considerably higher than that in a larger engine.
