Overzealous Protectionists…

no, this isn’t a post on trade barriers etc..

Its about the latest from the overzealous safety engineers.
Volvo now is testing ( and I believe marketing some vehicles in the
European market ) with SIDE airbags. Aparantly, they deploy from
the sidebars of the seats. Also, another manufactor is prototyping
rear seat airbags.
Personally, I’ld rather having wrap around seats standard.
I tend to slide around in even "bucket seats", and would like some side
support. And, I’m sure that 4 or 5 point harnesses would be safer than
any side impact bag. While a bag will only prevent you from sliding into
the door in an impact, it will NOT protect you in any way should the
door cave into the passenger compartment. Having stronger doors instead,
and side bolsters would.
What are we gonna see next? Roof Airbags for convertables????

        *sheesh*

So there I was, snuggled in the leather seat of my brand new Ferrari.
I had the oiled wooden gear shift in one hand, and the leather wrapped
Momo in the other.  I had the stereo cranking _Born to be Wild_…
Only two problems, I was upside down, and under six feet of water…

So what’s next?  …how ’bout an azide-inflated Nomex driving suit?
And maybe an armored moonroof — for "danger falling rock" zones.

    can’t be too safe,

Nope, auto ejector seats with parachutes, 55mph governors,
    talking tailgate warnings, etc… :-)

A fool and his net access soon go their separate ways.
