Oncoming Instant-on?

Is this possible?  Since most likely the radar gun
would be mounted on the dash while driving, doesn’t
it stand to reason that instant-on capabilities are
useless againt oncoming traffic?

Yes…it works the same as Radar in a moving aircraft.   It’s deadly
    accurate.

There is no such thing as aircraft traffic radar for the simple reason
that there is no speed vector toward or away from the aircraft.
Aircraft enforcement uses either (rarely) VASCAR or typically a stopwatch
and a chart of elapsed time between markers vs speed.

Instant-on radar works well against oncoming traffic.

maybe he was talking about military radar…you know, like
    fighter pilots…

Actually, in Alberta the RCMP don’t use radar in the aircraft.  Due to
the height of the aircraft, it’s difficult to aim a radar gun at a
_single_ car on the highway and guess its motion in a direction almost
at 90 degrees to the aircraft.  The RCMP use the old way:  count the
time it take to travel between two fixed points and calculate the speed
    based on that.

Well, since this is rec.AUTOS.driving, we’ll all assume that if you
mention radar in aircraft, you’re talking about traffic enforcement
radar.  If you want to comment on aviation radar, there are a number
of groups for that one.  If you are trying to claim that traffic
enforcement radar works from an aircraft, you are dead wrong.
