Maybe
Americans just don't see a need for a boxy, rather outdated
(exterior-wise), small, blindingly fast car with extraordinary handling
and an engine that has to be revved high to get the most of it (read
some other post before this about how Americans want power down low in
the rev range).

Somehow Italian cars don't sell well here. It might be that Americans
don't care about Italian cars, or Italian car manufacturers don't care
about American public! Can't say Alfa Romeo hasn't tried its best,
though, with all that excellent warranty (I think it's 2 or 3 years free
maintenance, all you pay is gas, plus regular 5 year warranty or
something!) yet the public just won't buy'em. Maybe they need cheaper
cars, (like the, umm...Lancias!) the public might be more willing to
buy cars that are considered 'risky' if it wouldn't be so expensive.

Proof that average American buyer's taste of cars is a bit strange: The
Ford Tempo and Chevy Cavalier are still one of the best selling car in
the U.S.! Imagine if they were sold in Europe!

Bernardus
Maybe, just maybe, we'll see the new Delta model re-emerge
in rally sport. Lancia has been winning about every single race over here
since the mid 80's. OK, that's slightly overdon ;-). But, over 60% of all
races run have been won by Lancia.
