Eh, does anyone know anything about the Honda Civic SI, the 1991 model, I know
it has a 1.6 liter 16 valve engine…. any other knowledge of this car would be
appreciated and neat! thanks!

What would you like to know? I had an ’89. The only differences
for ’91 that I know of are revised front facia, rear tail-lights, interior
cloth pattern and gauges. Otherwise, 108 hp 1.6l sohc 16v, 0-60 in high 8s,
185/60-14 tires on steel rims, f. disc/r. drum, gas pressurized shocks,
power sunroof, & lots of fun to drive. This car is easily modified. I had
an HKS exhaust, 195/50-15 Yokohama A509s on 15×7 Momo rims, and I replaced
the stock air box with a K&N filter. This thing was pretty quick and the
improvement in cornering with the tires was phenomenal (sp?). Oh yeah, I
had 105k kms on it and it was running like new (Mobil 1 every 5k kms). It
also has tons of interior space especially if you fold the rear seats down.
I’m 5′-9" and had ample room to spare. My friend (6′-4") was a bit cramped
in the back seat though.

Are Momo rims custum rims and are they larger than the stock honda rims?
and… when you say you replaced the stock air box with a K & N filter do you
mean just the air filter? and what exactly is the HKS exhaust? hey thanks
a lot.

I believe the Momo rims were 15" compared to the stock steel 14" on the
.
Si. He was also using 50 series tires … yep should improve the overall
handling quite a bit. The only custom rims I’ve seen made for the
Hondas (Civic & CRX) are racing rims made by Mugen. Ugly.. but they
provide good ventilation to the brakes and don’t crack under pressure

I recently bought a leftover ’93 Civic Si hatchback for $12,000 out the door.
They have been somewhat modified since ’91, they now generate 125 hp. (a result
of the VETEC, I guess, because they still displace 1.6L), and have 4-wheel disk
brakes and alloy wheels. It has been a great little car and gets my vote for
the most fun for the $. (Oh yea, the 0-60 times are now in the low 8′s, which
makes me wonder how people can say Honda’s are slow. They are not turbo road
burners but I cannot think of any other car under $12,000 that can beat the

I am not sure what you mean by "custom" rims, but they are not stock
Honda rims. The Civic Si comes with stock 14" steel rims and 60 series
tires. The wheels I had were 15" with 50 series tires. Significant
improvement in handling. K&N does make an air filter that replaces the
standard paper filter, however I removed the whole air box and used a big
cylindrical filter in its place. HKS is a Japanese company that makes a
number of high performance parts. The exhaust is a catalytic converter back
system that reduces back pressure and is good for about 7-8 hp.

I think that the 0-60 time of the Neon is sub 8 seconds, but I may
be wrong.

Be careful putting non-stock wheels on that car while it is still in warranty.
If the size is different, or if you screw with the suspension settings, Honda
will not honor any warranty work needed due to suspension modifications. Also
be sure that changint the rims doesn’t f— up the odometer reading. Most
states, Calif. being one, are death on altered odo readings. Calif. DMV is
getting tougher and tougher about this. Your odometer is calibrated to the
size tire/wheel that is stock on the car.

Any half-decent tire shop will set you up correctly. Things to
check when buying wheels are wheel offset, hub centricity, and overall
diameter. In the Civic’s case, going from a 185/60-14 to 195/50-15, there
is a very small change in overall diameter.

Don’t know for sure, but the seat-of-my-pants says that’s optimistic.
…number please?

If things are done right, wheels and tires can be switched and the dealer
won’t even notice a thing.
Don’t be so paranoid about the odometer.
