The province of Ontario prohibits the use of rader dectector. It is illegal
if you have it IN your car even NOT operating.

In Alberta, I believe that they are technically not legal, but no one has
gotten a ticket for the past three or four years or so, since a reasonably
high-ranking member of the legislature was pulled over whilst using one:-)

How’s that for democracy in action?  The voice of the poeple?   Hmmm.

Anyway, since then, they have become commonplace in electronics stores and
adorn many a dash.  You shouldn’t have any problem in Alberta.  Can anyone
else confirm or deny this?

Also, most roads around here, (most of the province) are quite long and
straignt until you get into the mountains.  Police use more instanct on
on in the middle of nowhere (look for a car on the side of the road not
moving) and in Calgary (and maybe Edmonton??) there are some MultiNova
automatic photoradar guns that are (movable and) attached to the underside
of overpasses on a few of the main higher speed routes.  These are being
challenged in court, since they take a picture of the car and lisense but
not necessarily the driver (is that right?) and a bunch of rental companies
have been getting a pile of tickets!!  As well as the occasional person
who dropped their car off for service (just checkin out that oil change with
a road test!!

Some traffic laws vary by province in Canada.  In Ontario radar
detectors are illegal, in Nova Scotia they are legal.  Sorry, but
that’s the only two provinces I know of for certain – having lived
in both.

While you’re here -> right turns on red are legal in Ontario and
Nova Scotia… but not legal in Quebec.

PS – (Just in case, not meant as a flame) You’ll also have to leave
     your gun(s) at home… or the Canadian customs will confiscate  
     it as you cross the border.
