Has anyone ever used Armor-All Quicksilver wheel cleaner?
I tried it last weekend on my alloy wheels because I had a lot of
brake dust and I heard that the Quicksilver was pretty powerful
stuff. My question is this: Is it TOO powerful. If used often
is it damageable? I noticed that my disks were orange after I
rinced off the cleaner. They went back to their normal color
after driving. Is this stuff corrosive on certain materials??
If you know anything, please share your info.
Thanks.

I purchased a some Quicksilver to clean my Riken aluminum
wheels. What a nightmare! It left irregular stains all over
the wheel which I had to scrub off with scotchbrite pad and
then polish with a good brand of metal polish. A friend of mine
said he also had lousy results. The stuff sucks. IMHO.

Are you sure the stuff is meant to be used on aluminium?
I haven’t used it myself, but have a similar product at
home, which is based on phosphoric acid, I think. I seem
to remember a warning on it regarding the use on aluminium
wheels.
Also, with regard to the first post, its probably a good
idea to take the wheels off the car before using the stuff.
Spraying what is basically a strong acid directly onto
the metal discs is obviously not a great way to go.

I have never tried Quicksilver but I’ve used other products with the same
results, stains etc. Many alloy wheels are clear-coated and shouldn’t stain
like that. Polished aluminum however will stain quite easily with most
cleaners. I did find one that doesn’t though. Eagle One Aluminum wash and
brightener (code letter F) cleans my highly polished diamond plate steps very
well and does not stain or ruin the "polished" look.

I’ve used it on my clear-coated wheels. It works great, but I
don’t use it any more because it takes a $6 can to do 4 wheels. For
that money, I just scrub them with soap and water.
That orange stuff was probably just rust.
