I recently purchased a used 88 Celica Alltrac at 65k miles. I am looking
for other individuals who have experienced the same problems as I have.
This is the standard GTS manual shift.
1. After driving for extended time, car will not restart until complete cooling off.
(Only the relay under the kick-panel clicks – nothing out of the hood!)
I have had the starter replaced twice – not the problem.
2. After the transmission is warm, shifting into 2nd gear is very grindy.
I have experienced the same thing on two other 87 Celicas with manual transmissions
A design flaw?
3. On hard (turbo :-p ) acceleration a loud vibration eminates from the left floorboard,
especially over not-so-flat terrain. The noise subsides only when power is
lowered. Is this a transaxle thing?
4. Brakes are soft sometimes (almost hit somebody!) and ABS will not activate because
it feels at half strength. Dealer says pads/discs are at near new condition.
5. I have also a set of 215-60-HR-14 Bridgestone RE71 all around. Has anybody
experienced bottoming out on these tires (wheel well interference?)
Please recommend a crossposting location for this question.
