RE: QUESTION ABOUT AIRBAG

> an airbag could shove a bottle down your throat if it went

That’s a neat trick, and a testimony to technology. In the
old days, we just let the windshield jam those bottles down
our throats. Is that why in Texas, where in some counties
they allow drink while you drive, they sell "long neck"
beer bottles?

Which recalls that old story about the guy with the girl friend

***TIMING BELT QUESTION****

Hi there,
        I own a 1990 Nissan 300ZX. Recently i just went over 60,000 miles
and was looking at the owners manual when i saw that they required
changing the timing belt. Is is it really that neccessary right now?
Will it hurt the car if i just wait for a few thousand miles more? I have
heard that when one goes out, all you got to do is tow it to a mechanic.
Can it hurt the engine (vales etc.) ?

thanx in advance,
abbas asghar

Station Wagon Research

I am in the market for a used, well-made, small station
wagon.  So far, my research (Consumer Reports) has
narrowed my search to:

Car                                Body Style
***********************            ********
Dodge Colt Vista 3D Wagon          92-
Eagle Summit 3D Wagon              92-
Ford Escort 4D Wagon               91-
Honda Civic Wagon                  88-91
Honda Accord Wagon                 91-93,94
Mercury Tracer 4D Wagon            91-
Mitsubishi Expo LRV 3D Wagon       92-
Mitsubishi Expo 5D                 92-
Nissan Maxima Wagon
Nissan Sentra Wagon                -90
Nissan Axxess                      1990
Subaru Legacy Wagon                89-
Subaru Impresa 4D Wagon            93-
Toyota Corolla Wagon               88-92,93-
Toyota Camry Wagon                 87-91,92-
Toyota Cressida Wagon

I have not seen the Impresa, the Colt/Summit/Expo
triplets, the Tracer/Escort twins, the Nissan Axxess, and
either Hondas in person (meaning, sat in side, or test
driven).

Does anyone have any warnings or cautions against any of
these models?

MR-2 Mailing list?

I asked this before, but I got an invalid email address.  So, Is there
a Toyota MR-2 specific mailing list?  If so, how can I subscribe
(actually it’s for a friend)?  If not, is there a mailing list for
Toyota?  Thank you.

RFD: rec.autos.saturn

************************************************************************
                      REQUEST FOR DISCUSSION (RFD)
                           rec.autos.saturn
************************************************************************

Group Name:     rec.autos.saturn
Status:         Unmoderated
Summary:        Discussion of all aspects of Saturn vehicles,
especially, but not limited to, owning and maintaining
                them
Distribution:   World

Proposed Newsgroup line:

rec.autos.saturn        All about Saturn automobiles.

                                CHARTER
                                ——-

The Saturn automobile (actually three automobiles with two engines:
sedan, station wagon, coupe, SOHC, DOHC) is a very popular small car
with a devoted customer base.  About 500,000 Saturns have been
manufactured to date, and Saturn Corp. will soon export to Europe and
Japan.  There is a fairly large mailing list for Saturn owners
(sat…@oar.net, subscription at saturn-requ…@oar.net) which serves
its recipients well.  Unfortunately, most Saturn owners on the net
don’t know and will never know that it exists.  There is enough
interest in Saturn that it should have both a mailing list and
a newsgroup.

This newsgroup would be a place to discuss the Saturn that would offer
itself to the entire Usenet community.

Topics for discussion would include:

How to maintain and repair Saturn vehicles
Performance, efficiency, reliability, and other statistics
The usual enthusiasm and gripes from owners
        Reviews and comparisons for shoppers
        Price information
All relevant announcements from GM or Saturn Corp.
Shopping for promotional Saturn Corp. items

Please distribute this proposal to anyone who owns or is interested
in Saturn vehicles.

This RFD is being submitted to news.announce.newgroups in compliance
with the usual guidelines (I hope).  I recently posted a proposal to
create alt.autos.saturn, but rec.autos.saturn is simply a better
idea.  This RFD is being posted to:

        news.announce.newgroups
        news.groups
        rec.autos.misc
        rec.autos.tech
        rec.autos.driving
        rec.autos.marketplace

This RFD will last for 21 to 30 days.  Assuming that there are no
overwhelming objections to rec.autos.saturn, there will then
be a call for votes (CFV) that will last 21 days.  As usual
creation of the newsgroup requires 100 more yes votes than no votes
and also two yes votes for every no vote.

Radar Location on Radio Stations

Can anyone tell me which radio stations seem to give the best reports as to where photo radar is currently sitting.
The current radio station I listen to never mentions it.
I am told some will give you exact location from listeners calling in on there Cell phones.

Thanks in advance
Scott

Ferrari Ownership

As there have been several people who have expressed interest in the
ownership of Ferrari’s in the last few months, I thought I’d let people
know about an article I read recently.  In September’s European Car
(Ferrari Special Issue), and article called "The joys and, yes, sorrows
of owning a Ferrari" gives an excellent insight into an owner and driver
of numerous of these impressive cars.

Also, while were on the topic, what exactly is the purpose and how
do you properly double clutch?

Thanks,
Ryan

BMW M3

Has anyone out there got any comments on the BMW M3? I’ve just driven my
cousin’s, and I have to say it’s the nicest car I’ve ever driven. I’ve
driven the following ‘sports’ cars and the BMW was the nicest of the lot!:
Porsche 944 S2, Ferrari Dino, Golf VR6, Ford Sierra Sappire Cosworth, and
that’s about it. Although I live in the England, I have a 1979 Buick Regal
which refuses to go forwards… Goes backwards fine though! Anyone know any
good American Car auto transmission repairers in/around west london? Is this
something I can fix for myself? I’m not afraid to play with the innards of
my car.At the moment I have to resort to driving my mum’s ’88 BMW 318i which
doesn’t go very fast! :-(

As I was saying, I found it easy to do 0-60 in around 5.5 secs in the M3,
and I hit 130MPH only a few secs later. I could have cruised effortlessly on
if it had not been for the limited roadspace you get in the country lanes
around Oxfordshire. The gearchanges were silky smooth and the pull was
phenominal even in fifth. The ride was also incredibly civilised for a car
of this performance, although I found the steering slightly light at high
speeds. The leather bucket style seats provided a high level of comfort and
support in tight cornering. The only complaint I have is that the inside
door handles aren’t positioned in the best place. and should be in a more
vertical orientation.

Please add anything you feel to this, as basically I was pretty amazed with
this car, but maybe I just love it because I love BMW’s and I’m biased!
