Sunday, March 28th, 2010Overzealous Protectionists…
Sunday, March 28th, 2010 no, this isn’t a post on trade barriers etc..
Its about the latest from the overzealous safety engineers.
Volvo now is testing ( and I believe marketing some vehicles in the
European market ) with SIDE airbags. Aparantly, they deploy from
the sidebars of the seats. Also, another manufactor is prototyping
rear seat airbags.
Personally, I’ld rather having wrap around seats standard.
I tend to slide around in even "bucket seats", and would like some side
support. And, I’m sure that 4 or 5 point harnesses would be safer than
any side impact bag. While a bag will only prevent you from sliding into
the door in an impact, it will NOT protect you in any way should the
door cave into the passenger compartment. Having stronger doors instead,
and side bolsters would.
What are we gonna see next? Roof Airbags for convertables????
*sheesh*

So there I was, snuggled in the leather seat of my brand new Ferrari.
I had the oiled wooden gear shift in one hand, and the leather wrapped
Momo in the other. I had the stereo cranking _Born to be Wild_…
Only two problems, I was upside down, and under six feet of water…

Re: tires on an SE-R?

For the stock rims, I hear the Dunlop SP Sport 8000′s are the best
z rated tires that fit. (19555ZR-14′s) Another tire for the
stock rims would be the D40 M@2 (-@), but those are V-rated.
These can be found at the Tire Rack. (1-800-428-8355)–
no, I’m not affiliated with them.
>>Also, is the SE-R rev limited? If not, I would like to use an MSD6AL. If so,

>Yes the SE-R is supposed to be rev-limited (although I have never hit mine).
>If you really want goodies for your SE-R get an aftermarket exhaust. It is the most cost effective upgrade for the SE-R.
Any recommendations?

Saturn Ventilation Problem
Sunday, March 28th, 2010 Gidday folks. I just had to see if any other Netters with ’94 Saturns
have had this problem. When I took delivery of my SL1 with A/C, I noticed
that I was getting very little airflow from the dash vents closest to the
doors. The service techs discovered that the car was missing the ductwork
that would channel air to these vents, along with the framework that
supports it. Apparently mine was the third car discovered with this
problem in Canada, all 94′s with A/C.
Has anyone else had this problem? BTW, see your dealer if the airflow
isn’t quite what you expect it to be

: Greetings,
: Given the amount of damage these airbags seem to be capable of (burns, broken jaws etc) I reckon there must be another way. Some ideas……
: a) Forget the bag – just blow loads of air out of the steering wheel on impact.
: ADVANTAGES: No burns or broken bits,
: DISADVANTAGES: Embarassing for people with toupees (God bless ‘em).
: Might blow your specs off.
: Bogies would be blown up the nose making them impossible
: to pick out in a traffic queue later on.
: b) Put rubber teat on the steering column
: ADVANTAGES: Great to suck on.
: Could double up as horn switch.
: DISADVANTAGES: Frequency of crashes would increase due to men sucking
: their steering wheels.
: The constant honking would be noisy.
: c) Wear a special hat with a spring on the front.
: ADVANTAGES: Fashion statement.
: No horns going off.
: Could double up as the radio antenna.
: DISADVANTAGES: Fashion statement.
: The recoil might prove to be a bit hazardous.
: d) Wear a special hat with a spring on the front and rear.
: ADVANTAGES: Superior status (cf. above)
: Double up as a directional radio antenna.
: DISADVANTAGES: Elitist
: If damping was too low then head might continue
: oscillating between the wheel and the head-rest
: for many minutes after impact.
: e) On impact make the column move towards the drivers head so fast that on
: impact, when the driver’s head starts to move forward, the wheel is already
: there. So, the velocity differential between the drivers head and the wheel
: is virtually zero.
: ADVANTAGES: Good trick to show the neighbours.
: Theft deterant. In park mode, if someone enters the
: car without authorisation the thief can be rendered
: unconcious by the imact of the wheel.
: DISADVANTAGES: Telescopic steering column required
: False triggering could prove fatal.
: f) Put airbag on the front of the car
: ADVANTAGES: Prevents damage to the car during the accident.
: Would make great ‘farty’ sounds on impact adding
: a certain humor to every crash thereby quelling anger,
: DISADVANTAGES: Would cause vehicles to bounce off each other
: increasing the likelyhood of other cars being involved.
: People would crash their vehicles for a laugh just to
: hear ‘farty’ noises.
: ETC ETC ETC
: Anymore……

Talon for Honda
Saturday, March 20th, 2010 I just traded my Talon TSI AWD 90 w/ 82000 miles on it for a
Honda Accord EX 93 w/ 19000 miles 100000 miles warranty. The difference,
including taxes, etc ….. was 10200 and some change.
I thought it was a great deal considering the honda is fully
loaded, power windows, locks, rear windows, power sunroof, abs, airbag,
and the long warranty compared to an Eagle already in a car accident,
windshield cracked in half, need paint job from scratches, transmission
almost gone [ 6 to 12 more months ], two rotors warped, the gear box needs
to be changed.
What do you guys think ? I really liked the Talon, it is a great
sports car, but once it breaks down and is out of warranty, it sucks,
the insurance set aside.

Re: Police Radar Jammers Test Results – a snitch uncovered
Saturday, March 20th, 2010I’ve decided that the way to handle the sniveling, whining, scummy
snitches that occasionally crawl out of the ooze to try and
cause other people troubles is to expose them to the light of day.
Such is the case of Reynold Leong, a scumsucker who thought he could
whine to "r…@dixie.com" about one of my posts. Reynold, that would
be me. You didn’t have the guts to say anything to me directly, did you,
you chickenshit coward?

Oncoming Instant-on?
Saturday, March 20th, 2010 Is this possible? Since most likely the radar gun
would be mounted on the dash while driving, doesn’t
it stand to reason that instant-on capabilities are
useless againt oncoming traffic?

American Racing Rims?
Saturday, March 20th, 2010 I have a question about the quality of American Racing brand
rims. The local Honda dealer is trying to move the ’94 Civic DX models.
I guess the LX have been selling far better and he has a large supply.
So, he’s pricing them to move. In addition, he’s offering a package of
add on options that he has laying around, not selling. Yes, I know its
a way of increasing the price.. but, since the "package" includes
A/C and some power groups as still less thanlist price.. it seems fair.
My question is.. it comes with the Rims ( five point, silver
rims ). They look shapr on the car, though I know they are no Momo’s
or BBS’s. HOwever, someone told me that AR rims are so cheap, the factory steel
stamped rims are safer/better… Is this true?
Much appreciated.
