Re: SHO

In article <1…@unet.UUCP>, pick…@eyore.net.com (Tom Pickett) says:

and furthermore…

In article <92087.140345K…@psuvm.psu.edu>, K…@psuvm.psu.edu (Karl Nordstrom)writes:

>What are you trying to say here, that the SHO is a better car for
>driving fast on twisty mountain roads or that you were a better driver

No, Karl, I think what Pickett is trying to say is that he enjoys
beating up the little guys.  I’d like to get him and his SHO out
on the same road with a Diablo. Pick on someone your own size, Tom!!

Say Pickett, is your black SHO the one I see on 280 doing about 95 mph,
and has a license plate that says SHO GOZE ???

Re: Watch out for Revenue Collectors in Alameda !!

Is this in Alameda, or Oakland?  If the former, you always have the right
to have jurisdiction assigned to the county seat (Oakland).  Most courts
allow you the right to a pretrial hearing; if you choose one, you don’t
have to pay bail up front…

Was it a just ticket?  You don’t say otherwise.  Assuming it is, are
you done whining now?

Re: SHOs

In article <1992Mar29.025852.29…@murdoch.acc.Virginia.EDU>,
jk…@faraday.clas.Virginia.EDU (Jason K. Schechner) says:

>        Are you trying to say that an SHO and a Diablo are even slightly
>comparable?

Well, last time I looked, the Diablo, SHO AND yes, even the Miata,
each had an engine, 4 wheels, and a steering wheel.  I would
say the SHO and Diablo comapre as well as the SHO and Miata….
different cars for different purposes.  People by Miatas because
…because…gosh..why DO people buy Miatas????  People buy Diablos
because their F40 is always in the shop, and people buy SHOs because
they wanted to fool their wives into thinking that they bought a
family car! (and to solve the inevitable mid-life crisis)  8-)

Re: Tires for Probe GT?

Well, I finally decided on tires for my Probe GT. Thanks publicly to all
those who helped out with their comments, suggestions, and tire manuals ;)

After a long debate, I decided I wanted to put the original tires back on the
car. A lot of people said not to do this because the tread wears down really
quickly on these tires. I agree that this is true — HOWEVER:

(*) Goodyear tires come with a 50K mile warranty, and so your tires can be
    prorated.

So, I am taking my car to Sears. Right now, they are having a 10% off sale.
I am going to put Goodyear VR60 205/60VR-15 tires on my machine. Sears
will give me FORTY PERCENT OFF of the tires because they are worn before
they should be (hence, the prorate).. I only have 36K miles on my car.
*AND* I get the 10% off in addition. Assuming the tires cost $150..
that’s $150 less 40$ = $90 less 10% = $81.00/tire.

Furthermore, Sears will charge me about $50 to have all four balanced,
and then I can have them balanced any time, at any Sears, in any state,
for FREE, for as long as I own the tires. Pretty nifty, eh?

Daniel E. Rudman

P.S. I know that the originals were actually 195/VR60-15, but the wider
tread turns me on  ;)

Stereotypical frustrating drivers

Anyone ever notice the qualities that make up a driver that really bugs the
hell out of you?  I don’t just mean bitch about them, but generalize about
what characteristics they have, and put them to a list?  For example …

"Elmer and Gertrude"

car – any sedan by Chrysler, Ford LTD Crown Victoria, Chevrolet Caprice
Classic, any large Cadillac, any large recreational vehicle. "They don’t make
‘em like that ’74 Valiant we had".

native habitat – usually Florida, Arizona, New Mexico or Minnesota.  Often
lives in a subdivision calles "Leisure Acres", "Leisure Village", "Leisure
Palms" or "Leisure Palms West".

identifiable markings – old man wearing a hat, woman in passenger seat that is
taller than the old man, skinny tires, no bumper stickers.

behavior – driving at speeds close to the speed limit in the passing lane,
braking at unidentifiable obstacles, merging into expressway/motorway/
freeway traffic at 30 MPH/50 KPH.

Mitsubishi Eclipse vs. Geo Storm 2+2

So which is the better car- the base model ’92 Mitsubishi Eclipse or
the base model ’92 Geo Storm? Price-wise, they are both within a few
hundred dollars of each other at the $10K mark, which is my limit
for a car. Any comments at all appreciated. Thanks.
