Of the current crop of north american minipickups, which is considered to be
the most reliable of the 4cyl/auto tranny base or extended cab pickup. I
have a 99 tacoma and consider that to be a good one but have heard that
toyota reliability has suffered in recent yrs. My cousin wants a minipickup
that is a couple of yrs old. He wants it to be reliable above all- the rest
of the it (ride/quietness/mpg) are secondary to the "appliance" aspect that
he’s looking for. Suggestions? Thanks Pat

North American pickup…haven’t heard of that brand of truck, sorry.
Haven’t heard of any North American appliances either. North American
did make a wide range of military aircraft for decades though.

I don’t have firsthand ownership experience yet, but I am in the
market and have been researching and test driving small 4×4 pickups
and expect to buy soon. So far the vehicle that has impressed me the
most has been the Nissan Frontier. AIS has reliability rated perfect
for the 04, with only one or two (depending on motor) minor items for
03. 03 & 04 were available supercharged, if that’s your thing, and 05
brought a new redesign that dropped the supercharger and upped the
engine. I would suggest your friend test-drive a Frontier in her
travels, doing so had quite an effect on my vehicle search.
